About me

Kathryn Cardinal

Hi! My name is Kathryn, I am an herbalist, a Certified Women’s Herbal Educator, a Fertility Awareness educator, Moon Lodge facilitator, and founder of Spring Moon Fertility!

This practice was birthed in early 2014 after many years of teaching classes and working with clients locally to help them get pregnant and address various reproductive health concerns naturally. This website came to be so that I could reach more women from every corner of our beautiful planet.

I have been fascinated by reproductive and sexual health since my teenage years. Like most women in our culture, I received very little education on these topics as a young woman. I entered womanhood without knowing much about my cycles, about contraception, or conception. I have always felt that this lack of basic knowledge was something that really needed to shift, which is what has fueled my passion for learning about these topics and sharing that knowledge with as many woman as I can.

I was rejoiced when I discovered the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM). It filled so many gaps in my knowledge about my body and my cycles. As I began to practice FAM, a deep shift began to take place within me – a deep appreciation for my cycles, for my bleeding, and for the ever changing nature of my feminine spirit started to grow within me. I became empowered to approach how I care for myself and my fertility more holistically and naturally. It pushed me to further my studies of botanical medicine, holistic nutrition, and women’s health.

It is not a stretch to say that deepening my connection to my cycles changed my life! It also kindled a burning desire to share this joy with other women.

I have been practicing and studying Fertility Awareness for over 11 years. I started teaching classes in 2009, and offered my course online for the first time in October 2014. In 2010 and 2011 I also taught an Introduction to Fertility Awareness class to nursing students at Edinboro University, in Edinboro PA. Over the years I have taught public classes on natural health and fertility, group & private FAM workshops, and I have worked 1-on-1 with women from all across the globe to help them balance their hormones, get pregnant naturally, and overcome a variety of health challenges. I have also co-created a wonderful program called Rediscovering the Feminine Mysteries, where my wonderful friend Justine Joyful and I share women’s wisdom via intimate, in-person classes.

I have had the honor of studying various healing traditions with truly gifted teachers. I studied herbalism with wise woman extraordinaire Susun Weed over the course of several years, and became a Certified Women’s Herbal Educator after studying with Aviva Romm. I am a member of the American Herbalist’s Guild. I have also studied healing qigong at Ling Gui International Healing Qigong School in Portland, Oregon.

I grew up in Quebec, Canada and my first language is French. I moved to the United States 13 years ago when I married my husband. We now have 3 wonderful sons and are living our dream building the Thunder Springs intentional community on 35+ acres of land in Western Pennsylvania. We are building an Earthship to soon live off the grid. Click here to visit our Facebook page, Thunder Springs Earthship Build.

I love to grow food, as well as medicinal plants, including many at-risk and endangered plants that are native to this area. When I am not teaching or studying, I enjoy cooking & baking, sewing, playing in the forest with the kids, bird watching, harvesting wild foods, and practicing qigong & meditation. I aim to live as close to nature as I can, following the natural rhythms of mother earth, living simply, and happily.

Overcoming some health challenges of my own

When my husband and I first decided to start having children, we tried to conceive for several years unsuccessfully, and I had two miscarriages. My OB told me I had “unexplained infertility” and her only suggestion to me was to try Clomid (a fertility drug). I didn’t like not having an explanation, and was determined to get pregnant naturally.

Deep down I knew something was off. I had many signs of a sluggish thyroid – I was told my TSH was in the normal range, but in hindsight it was actually slightly elevated (beware that many doctors still use outdated ranges when testing TSH). My basal body temperature was also lower than normal, which is a sure sign of a poorly functioning thyroid. Furthermore, all signs pointed to me having endometriosis at the time. I was told the only way to confirm a diagnosis was to get a laporoscopy (a small surgery where a scope is inserted into the abdomen) but I did not feel comfortable getting such an invasive procedure. I had excruciating painful menstrual cramps for years and years, I knew there was more to that story. I decided the symptoms I felt were significant enough for me to assume there were indeed hidden issues, and got to work on healing myself accordingly.

I still hold this view today that naming a condition only goes so far – symptoms and constitution can tell us everything we need to know to get get started on our journey to a healthier version of ourselves!

And so I took matters into my own hands… I began to read everything I could on the topic of natural fertility and hormonal health. I used the information I gathered from charting my cycles to guide my journey to conception. I used herbal medicine, received acupuncture treatments, practiced qigong & meditation regularly, and also used jade eggs to improve pelvic circulation. I also practiced lunaception, made big changes & improvements to my diet, and .

I was determined to overcome this obstacle without interventions or drugs, and all my hard work paid off – in 2011 I was able to get pregnant naturally! I entered pregnancy in a balanced state of health, I had an easy and enjoyable pregnancy, as well as a comfortable and life-affirming home birth. Click here to read my orgasmic birth story.

I dealt with infertility again when we were trying to conceive our second child. I had 5 miscarriages before I became pregnant with my son. The second time around, I felt much more confident in facing those challenges, and knew in my heart that I would eventually be able to get pregnant naturally and have a smooth pregnancy. I did, and I gave birth to our second son in June 2016. I will be sharing the story of that birth and of my super easy postpartum recovery very soon.

My struggles with fertility and other health issues have been an incredible learning journey for me, and have given me a deep appreciation for our innate ability to achieve radiant health naturally. I am deeply grateful to share my passion with you and assist women on their individual healing journeys.

Stay wild and vibrant,
